This video shows you how to calculate exposure using: the Camera Meter, Sensor Meter, and Manual Calculator. All three will help you calculate your camera settings for a perfect exposure. All three depend on different inputs but are functionally similar. More information on each will be covered in future videos.

Each meter is broken down into 3 main parts: 1) exposure input; 2) camera settings; 3) manual adjustments.

Exposure Input

This tells the app the value used for calculation. For Camera Meter, this comes from the device’s camera as reflected light. For Sensor Meter, this is incident light on the device’s ambient sensor. For Manual Calculator, you select the exposure value that you need.

Camera Settings

The Camera Settings are a combination of the exposure inputs, settings inputs, and calculated values. There are four values. Aperture, which has the f slash label. Shutter speed, which has the sec label. Film speed, which has the I S O label. And Exposure Value, which has the E V label. E V is the value from exposure input, you do not need to change this directly.

The box highlighted in red is the calculated value. To calculate a different setting, long press on that box until the color changes to red. For example, if you want to photograph in shutter priority mode (labeled as T V or S on cameras), long press the aperture box. Then set your I S O and shutter speed. To photograph in aperture priority mode (labeled as A V or A on cameras), long-press the shutter speed box. Then set your I S O and aperture.

You can set bounds on aperture, I S O, and shutter speed. If you exceed those bounds, you will see the actual value displayed next to the bounded value.

These three values are the ones you want to input into your camera directly.

Manual Adjustments

The manual adjustments allow you to make tweaks to your exposure value. Most commonly, these are for neutral density filters or for small adjustments. This allows you to over or under expose a photo, or adjust for variances in devices.
