In trigonometry, the six main trigonometric ratios are:
1. Sine (sin) - The ratio of the length of the opposite side to the length of the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle.
sinθ = Opposite / Hypotenuse
2. Cosine (cos) - The ratio of the length of the adjacent side to the length of the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle.
cosθ = Adjacent / Hypotenuse
3. Tangent (tan) - The ratio of the length of the opposite side to the length of the adjacent side of a right-angled triangle.
tanθ = Opposite / Adjacent
4. Secant (sec) - The reciprocal of cosine, i.e., the ratio of the length of the hypotenuse to the length of the adjacent side of a right-angled triangle.
secθ = Hypotenuse / Adjacent
5. Cosecant (csc) - The reciprocal of sine, i.e., the ratio of the length of the hypotenuse to the length of the opposite side of a right-angled triangle.
cscθ = Hypotenuse / Opposite
6. Cotangent (cot) - The reciprocal of tangent, i.e., the ratio of the length of the adjacent side to the length of the opposite side of a right-angled triangle.
cotθ = Adjacent / Opposite
These trigonometric ratios are used to solve problems related to angles and sides of a right-angled triangle.
