If, like me, you regularly use Google Docs and Google Sheets, then it’s often handy to have a direct link to a sheet or doc on your iphone or ipad home screen. Here you can see I link to my Productivity sheet where I keep track of how often I’m exercising and creating these videos. To set this up you need to install the Google Sheets or Docs app, then find the sheet or doc you wish to link to. Tap on the three dots menu icon and then tap Copy Link from the options. Next we want to switch over to the Shortcuts app, so I’ll come out of Google sheets and open Shortcuts. If you land this screen choose All shortcuts and then click on the plus icon to create a new shortcut. Tap on Add Action, and you should see this Web category just here. Choose Open URLs and then we want to paste our link that we just copied from Google Docs or Sheets into the URL field here. Like so. Having pasted the link, tap on the little drop down arrow to give your shortcut a name. Since I’m linking to my productivity sheet I’ll call my shortcut Productivity. Tap done to save the new name and then tap on the drop down arrow again and here you can either just add your shortcut to the home by tapping here, or as well as changing the name I like to also customise my home screen icon. So I’ll change it to this one, and change the colour, and tap done to save the change. Now I can tap on the drop down arrow again to add my shortcut to my home screen. Click Add and there we are. Here’s my link to my Google Sheet and if I tap on it, it’ll take me straight into my spreadsheet and I can edit it on the fly.
