043 - Practical Training Techniques - Basic Clinch Swimming

About the video: If you know how to clinch, you can pretty much destroy a lesser trained and poorer prepared opponent who is dead set on f-ing you up. But what if they also know the clinch. This is a great practical training exercise that can help you learn how to swim your way out.

About me: I've been a martial arts and defensive tactics instructor trainer (train the trainer) for many years, and have taught members of the military, law enforcement, corrections, security, and the general public in both the United States and abroad.

On the unarmed side, I focus on five main ranges (kicking, trapping, striking, kicking, grappling, and ground). These incorporate a variety of techniques from many different systems and styles. The basic rule is to use what works for you, and ignore the rest. And in all cases, it has to be applicable to the situation you are dealing with and should be proportionate and along the use of force continuum. Remember, there are always potential legal ramification to the use of force, even when you're justified in defending yourself or others.

But martial arts and defensive tactics is just one aspect of who I am, what I do, and how I live my life. For me, life is fragile and fleeting. I've been there when people have left this world and it demonstrated to me the importance of living life to the fullest extent possible.

Safety and security obviously play a role in that. Being capable of defending oneself is a critical element in being able to actually enjoy the life we have.
