I Broke GitHub Copilot (first look at GitHub Copilot)

In this first look at GitHub Copilot I decided to put my new AI pair programming friend through the paces. We start off with some simple Leetcode questions, then move onto SQL, followed by building a website, eventually we tried out Kotlin. Ultimately though, I broke GitHub Copilot, I feel so bad.

GitHub Copilot has been trained on billions of lines of public code, and puts all of that knowledge at your fingertips. With this newfound superpower I did the only thing I knew how to do, which was to immediately break GitHub Copilot during this first look.

GitHub Copilot is powered by Codex, which was created by Open AI, the creators of GPT-3. GitHub Copilot understands much more context than other code assistants. So, whether it’s in a comment, function name, or the code itself, Copilot uses the context you’ve provided and writes code to match.

Keep in mind, Copilot is still in an early (and closed) beta program. This tool is getting smarter day by day. My first impressions of GitHub Copilot are split, in some ways this tool is underwhelming and has a long ways to go while in other areas it is overwhelming by just how much it can do already.
