Workshop storage part 2

Here is the second and last part of the workshop storage project. The far right hand side of the long bench area was always a mess and I've made a solution that tidies this area up and stores all that was there before with space left over for more stuff. Again it's all MDF, no glue (almost) and some more colour for fun.

MDF Finish:
All the MDF except the faces are finished with two coats of water based satin clear, sanding in between and brushed on. I prefer oil based clear (I actually like it yellowing over time) but the water based stuff dries very quickly and is easier to use. The faces were edge sanded, no filling, and sprayed with white undercoat primer, several heavy coats. This was lightly sanded and then several coats of colour was applied. This was done with water based spray cans except the yellow because I could not get the 'golden yellow' I wanted in water based so used enamel. Some of the edges are still a bit porous but not too bad and there is some orange peel here and there, but for the workshop it's tolerable.

Fun Facts:
This part cost more than double the first part. The price of even MDF has gone through the roof.

There are about twelve hundred screws in the two parts of the project and thirty seven handles with seventy four slides.

I estimate that part two weighs about two hundred kilos empty.

I haven't shown any of the spray painting for two reasons, the first is logistics, there just isn't much time to compose and shoot video. The other is I don't want my camera anywhere near overspray.

I have had some comments about not using glue. There isn't anything to worry about, these constructions are solid and sturdy, years ago in a workshop far away I made a whole bunch of draws the same way and they lasted for almost twenty years before my workshop together with my parents house was sold and demolished.

Although the slides are rated 45 kilos, when opening the larger shelves there is still a little sag from the weight, even though I'm sure each slide out shelf and contents are within this tolerance.

For people who enjoy this short of thing, the first few seconds of video footage took about three hours to get right.
