বাংলা Live Class : Camera Basics Free Workshop

In this live class I discussed basic camera functions like Shutter Speed, Aperture, ISO, F Stop and connection between them.

Camera is a tool to capture light. No matter it's a film camera or digital. Basic principles are same.

Shutter Speed : How fast shutter curtain open and close, it's known as shutter speed. Unit of shutter speed is second. A 1/100th Shutter Speed means, shutter curtain will open, expose the sensor or film for 1/100th of a second and close.

Fast Shutter Speed means, it will open and close quickly. It will take less light, due to low exposure time. It will help to capture fast moving objects, froze them in time.

Slow shutter speed means, it will open, expose the film or sensor on light for a significant time and close. As the result, it will take much more light, which is helpful to capture photos on low light environment. But if subject moves during shutter stays open, it will create motion blur on final image.

Aperture : It's the size of the iris of camera lens, denoted by "f/(number)". Smaller the number gets, higher the size of iris and vice versa. So, f/2's iris is larger than f/4's iris.

Lower aperture take more light, and background of subject is become more blur. For higher aperture it's the opposite. Lens with lower aperture is also called fast lens. Because to expose the photograph correctly, you need a fast shutter speed.

ISO : It's the light sensitivity of film / sensor. Lower ISO means it is less sensitive to light and higher ISO is highly sensitive to light. But with higher ISO, film grain becomes more visible.

Use lower ISO settings / film for day light condition and higher ISO for night or low light condition.
