5 TWISTED SCRIPTURES

Scriptures are often taken out of context and used as a means of financial gain or to maintain power, status, or in order to maintain the running of the religious system machine.

Here are 5 scriptures often taken out of context.

1.Malachi 3:8-18
Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

This verse is often abused by pastors who take it's meaning out of context to suit their own desires. Tithes, in the Bible, were food. Tithes were given to the poor, the Levitical priests, and travelers coming into the land of Israel. The bible says that curses do NOT apply to new covenant believers. IN Galatians 3:13, the Bible tells us that Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law and became a curse for us. We are also told that we should not give out of fear or threats, but rather, out of joy. Many pastors also say that "God will open the windows of Heaven" if you will give to "them and their ministry" However, the windows of Heaven, in the Bible, refers to rain. God was promising rain for the crops, and yet today many have turned "rain" into "money." God never promises us a financial windfall. Instead, he tells us that we should "be content with what we have" and he also tells us that we store up treasure in Heaven when we give to the poor.


2. “Touch not my anointed ones, do my prophets no harm!” 1 Chronicles 16:22 This verse is used to silence questioning church goers from asking questions of the leadership.

(Hebrews 10:25) This verse is used to enforce church attendance legalism. It is taken out of context by pastors who need tithe money to keep the church building maintained.
