Minecraft: Java Edition (1.6.4) - Gameplay

In this video, I play Minecraft version 1.6.4 on an era-appropriate computer. This version of the game was released in mid to late 2013. Compared to now, Minecraft was a lot more primitive.

I had planned on recording gameplay like this for quite some time, but the problem is mostly my packed work schedule and a lack of motivation. I decided to start it again several months after my initial attempts when I discovered that I had reached 1K subscribers on YouTube, with a chunk of said subscribers arriving from the Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition video I recorded in 2019.

Originally I was going to just record my gameplay with my gaming computer and cripple the game by intentionally turning down some settings to make it feel more authentic, but I decided to deviate from this route by using an old computer I had running Windows 7. It's an incredibly reliable business machine that I used from 2017 to about 2020 as my daily driver. It is old enough to still natively support Windows XP (with drivers for almost everything being readily available for download) but also new enough to run more modern versions of Windows like Windows 10 without trouble. This computer was never intended to run games like Minecraft, but so were all the computers we used to play it on back then, and that makes it a perfect candidate.

I could have used Windows XP to record the video and indeed I did try to get that working, but the game's performance would gradually degrade until it was practically unplayable for reasons I still can't understand. Even without that issue, HDMI audio drivers don't exist for Windows XP on my computer, so the resulting video would be completely silent.
