Online Java Judge

Online Judge as known as Online Judge System, it is a system which we can use to test if programs are well-designed to solve specific problems automatically. Online judge systems are always used in programming contest, e.g. ACM-ICPC (ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest). There are a lot of open source online judge systems around the world, most of them support more than one language, e.g. C++ and Java. Although many online judge systems are open source solution and we can obtain it very easily, these systems are too complicate and provide too many functions (for us) to integrate/put/connect it into/with our in-house customized systems.

This project's objective is to develop a lightweight online judge with the features and functionality required by our research and develop an original rubric algorithm for scoring the overall results of the programming attempts.

The project's front-end requirements are implemented in PHP with mySQL running on a Linux server. The Java Judge is created as a threaded Java socket server which accepts Java code and completes the required tests on the Java code and responds with the required test results.

All of the source code, sample inputs and test inputs are formatted in XML and passed to the Java Judge daemon via socket connection. The Java daemon will compile the source code and respond to the PHP request with the Java test results in XML either. The PHP page then extracts the results from the XML response and stores it in mySQL database. This distributed design allows for scalability and portability of the Java Judge.
