The Gregs Lighting Mod for Minecraft adds a new type of light to the game: Flood Lights. These are directional lights which provide a large amount of light to an area.

These floodlights are perfect for large rooms and tunnels. The beam stays strong for about 50 blocks or so and has a very wide radius, compared to regular torches or lamps. There are 3 types of flood lights which are added in this mod, 2 of which are accessible via vanilla minecraft.

To install the Gregs Lighting Mod, you'll want to grab yourself Forge which will let you install a lot of mods just by dropping them in a folder. If you haven't installed Forge yet, I suggest you do as it is a crucial and beneficial mod that simplifies things.

There are 3 types of Floodlights which are added by utilizing the Gregs Lighting Mod:

A Regular Floodlight: This uses an expensive formula of 8 glowstone and a gold nugget to equal a special ingot which is used with 4 more iron, a redstone powder, and 3 glass. This is the most efficient type of lighting though, as it has an infinite life and does not require any fuel or energy. This works in conjunction with Wireless Redstone.

A Calcium Carbide Floodlight: This uses a rather interesting combination of smelted bonemeal/charcoal to get calcium carbide, which then requires water as a catalyst. A stack of Calcium Carbide and a bucket of water can power a Calcium Carbide floodlight for about 20 day/night cycles in Minecraft.

An IC2 Electric Floodlight: This uses various items found in industrialcraft to build fillaments which are used to make a bulb which are then used to create the electric floodlight. While this seems like an interesting process, this floodlight requires 1 EU/tick of power, which is the equivallent of a stirling engine.

For the reasons and features listed above, I'd prefer the use of the regular floodlight over the others, even though I have Industrialcraft installed. With industrialcraft, you'd be able to macerate/recycle enough of the materials needed to create a plethora of regular floodlights.
