Hacknet.EDU is a cyber-security simulation game for secondary and tertiary education - it provides students a strong set of technical skills - experience in basic cyber security, terminal use, technical problem solving skills and a stronger knowledge of computer systems and functions. It also acts as a strong, approachable introduction to basic programming and information technology courses.

Hacknet.EDU is built on the foundation of the multi-award-winning entertainment version of Hacknet, released in 2015 to international critical and commercial success. The newer education-specific version expands on the core concepts of the original game to further it's educational potential, while maintaining the design principals and values that made the original so compelling as a game.

The game is deigned for classroom use, and many approaches to splitting the original gameplay into blocks that worked better for a lesson format were considered and experimented with, until we found a method that allows for critical lesson content to be presented reliably to everyone in the class, while still allowing fast or talented students to explore further and faster, refining their knowledge in an engaging way.

While Hacknet.EDU covers plenty of course content, arguably it's strongest feature is it's powerful approach to giving students confidence with technical systems. It provides students with an environment to experiment with and hone their technical and systems administration skills in a natural, structured way, and gives provides the ability to look at technical problems from an approachable, constructive standpoint, instead of being intimidated by them.
