If you ever edited a video, you will surely know how boring and time consuming cutting all the clips can be. That is even more problematic when you record one big take and then you have to cut off all the mistakes. A solution would be to record each take as a separate clip, but sometimes, like in my case, that would be very inconvenient.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a remote to control which parts of a video are correct, and thus must be kept, and which parts are wrong, and thus should be discarded?

Well, that’s exactly the aim of this project and here’s how it works:

You have a remote, in this case I made a very simple android app, that, when clicked, emits a sound at a specific frequency. You can add lots of different controls to it, the only requirement is that each command has a different frequency. The link to the source code is in the description, as well as the pre-built APK.

The idea here is simple:

When you are recording a video, you can press the second button to tag the clip as mistaken or the first button to tag it as correct.
The remote will emit the sound that will be recorded in the audio track of the video.
Then the script will analyze the soundtrack to find all the time markers you’ve put.
At this point, using FFmpeg, the script cuts the correct subclips and discard the mistaken ones.
