Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to this video on how to create and customize menus in WordPress. We are here in our rock climber example website that we've created for these tutorial videos, and as you can see we have our Krabi Rocks post right at the top here, it's our sticky post. I've made it featured, so it's sticky post on the top here. Down the side we have our widgets, that we covered in another video and you can see I have a search bar at the top here. I have pages, recent posts and categories.

We also have a menu at the top here, we just have the "about us" and "contact us" in pages in our menu. Down the side, in our sidebar here, we have "about us", "contact us", equipment, privacy policy and top 10 climbs pages. How do we get those pages up into this menu, maybe make the "about us" and "contact us" as one drop down menu. We are going to cover that in this video. We are also going to cover how to create additional menus in relation to your theme. Menus that you're able to have are dictated by the theme that you choose for your website. We'll get to that in a minute.

What we will do now, is we'll go up to the rock climber link, this probably will be rock climber for your website. If you go to the quick link top bar up here and go to menus. This takes us straight through to the menus tab on our WordPress backend. If you were on your dashboard and you wanted to get to your menus, you would go to appearance, then in the sub-menu, click menus. This takes you to the exact same spot. On the menus interface here, we have the ability to edit our menus, manage the location of our menus and create new menus. We can also populate the existing menus we already have and we can change the names of those menus too, and also, their locations.

On the sidebar here, we have different options for content we can add to our menus. The top default drop down here is pages. These list all the pages that we have on our website and are available to us to add to our menus. Underneath that is posts. This is all the posts in our blog. We are able to add those to our menu, or as sub-options to our menus too. Underneath this is custom links. We will cover custom links in a minute, but in enables you to link to parts of your website or to external websites through the menu. Finally, we have categories. Now you can add a category to your menu. When you click on that option, it will show everything that is listed in this specific category.

On the second tab here at the top, we have manage locations, so we click through to there and it will show us the locations that we are able to have menus with the theme we selected. We're currently operating on the 2016 theme, which gives you a primary menu at the top, which is this menu here, and also it gives you a social links menu, which you'll probably find at the bottom. We have not selected a menu for the social links menu, and we will do this now.

To do this, click use new menu. This will give us the first option, which is to give our new menu a name. We'll just call it social, because it is for social, the social has a drop down already and we will then create the new menu. We just created a new menu, but we need to populate it. Because it's a menu for social links, we will use custom links from the custom links tab on the side here.

We will start off by adding a Facebook link, so we'll just link to Facebook. Com. By doing this, you just type in www. Facebook. Com and then we will add a link text on the main, which will just be Facebook. We will add that to our menu. As you can see, we now have a block here representing the Facebook link. We'll now add another one, we'll add Twitter. Twitter. Com and we will make the link text Twitter. We will add that to our menu. We'll do YouTube as well.

Okay, I've just cut the video here and added a few more social links to our social menu. We have Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Pinterest. This is what your menu represents. You can move these around on here, so you can change the order of how they look, so if I want Pinterest above Twitter, then I can do that. I can make them as sub-items, so I can have Twitter and Pinterest underneath Twitter and have it as a drop down, or what we will do is make them all the same as they are all equal.

Once we've done that and we've got the menu selected, we don't want our primary menu, we want our social links menu that we just created, so you check that one there. You then click save menu. We will then go back to our website and click refresh, and see what it looks like.
