Import Cross Section Data from Excel

Cross-sections can be created by importing data directly from Excel File. Section module of ESurvey CADD allows you to create cross sections by importing data available in Excel. There are 5 different Excel Templates made available to import cross-section data, depending on the elevation data format you have for representing cross-section you can choose the required excel template to import the data.

Hello everybody, welcome to the video tutorial on how to import cross-section data from Excel in ESurvey CADD.

E Survey Sections allow you to import data from 5 different types of Excel formats – Layers, Series, Classic, Fixed Distance and Field book.

Click on the ‘Template’ button on the toolbar and Select each of these options and open the templates. You will come to know that formats are given for the most popular cross-section data formats. If you haven’t had data in these formats, open any of the templates and paste cross-section data in one of these formats.

These are Sample data files for various Templates
1. Layers: Use this template if the input data is available layer-wise
2. Series: Most popular input format. Use this Template if the input data has multiple layers of data.
3. Classic: Use this template if the input data is an available section wise. Please note that there are 5 different worksheets in this template and you need to select the template depending on a number of columns of data you have.
4. Fixed Distance: Use this template if the input data is available at a standard distance
5. Field book: Use this template when you have survey data created from Auto level

To understand the column names better, open and see C:\ESurvey\ESurveyCADD\Sample\Series.XLS which is readily available in the sample folder.
There are 5 Columns of Data – Layer, Section, Distance, Level, and Remark. ESurvey CADD allows importing data up to 20 layers. Normally ground data are imported in Layer 1 and hence you have to specify 1 as layer number. In the section column, you have to specify the chainage value. In the Distance column you have to give the distance from the center for offsets on the left side give distance in negative For example -4 means a point at 4 meters away from the center on the left side along the alignment. In the level column, enter a reduced level that is the elevation or Z value of the point. You can optionally enter the remark if any. After entering the data you save the file in any location.

In this example, we will import data available in the sample folder that is ‘Series.XLS’. Click on Excel import and select ‘Series.XLS’. Once the data is imported, all the cross-sections will be created automatically. You can navigate from a cross-section to cross-section in the Preview Screen.
