fish: Friendly Interactive SHell

Indeed it's friendly in my opinion, also extremely colorful. Started in 2005 and written in C++.

Auto-suggestion and tab-completion are helpful, pathnames, command's options/arguments. Colors are used in many places, valid/invalid pathname, scripting, etc. It even has an out-of-the-box support for Git repository.

All these are attractive features, but as an average Bash user, who doesn't need colors or friendly interface, fish can't make me switch to. I use [tab] key a lot, but it's only because I am lazy to spell it all out, not because I don't know how or what to type the whole thing. Also, when I type in a command, my eyes are looking at screen, but not the line of being typed but the following line where the results will be printed out.

However, I believe this highly interactive shell will be helpful for new users who haven't been able to know what exactly how to do things.

This video is only made for people want to have a glance of this shell, since I am not using it and don't know much about it, no way I can demonstrate it and do it justice. I also can't comment on its scripting feature.

By the way, fish is the only project I have ever seen writing this in its contact section of website:

"Questions, comments, rants and raves can be posted to the official fish mailing list."

"rants?" fish not only can swim, but it also have balls to allow users (or encourage) users to engage with those.
