Complete Tutorial | Create State-District Dependent (Nested) Spinner | DropDown List | Android Java

Android Spinner is a view similar to the dropdown list which is used to select one option from the list of options. It provides an easy way to select one item from the list of items and it shows a dropdown list of all values when we click on it. The default value of the Android Spinner will be the currently selected value and by using Adapter we can easily bind the items to the spinner objects.

The choices you provide for the spinner can come from any source, but must be provided through an SpinnerAdapter, such as an ArrayAdapter if the choices are available in an array or a CursorAdapter if the choices are available from a database query.

In this video, we will learn how to create Outer Spinner, populate it with list of items using ArrayAdapter. Then, create Inner Spinner and populate it with list of items according to the item that was selected in the Outer Spinner.

Outer Spinner (State Spinner) contains the names of Indian States. On selecting a State from the list, the Inner Spinner (District Spinner) gets populated with the names of Districts which belongs to the selected State. After selecting a District, we can obtain the names of selected State and District and display on the screen using Toast.

Also, I have used TextView for displaying errors related to Spinners.
