Canon PowerShot 1400IS video test

I just bought this camera today. $230 value, and it was $180. So far I'm very impressed with it. It takes unbelievable pictures for the price(14.1 megapixel). Perfect for what I wanted, a really good picture taking camera also with 720p. I had a Nikon Coolpix S6000 which is about the equivalent to this, and the Canon kills the Nikon. It has a ton of customizable color features for both picture and video. Also what this camera has that the Nikon completely lacked was a customizable self timer. You can set the timer on this one from 1-30 secs, and up to 10 shots.

The angle is very wide. I'm impressed with it because i've been using the terribly narrow zi8 for about a year now. I haven't messed with the zoom, I never use zoom anyway. But it'll do 4x. The macro function is also amazing for both video and pictures. There's a few macro clips in these clips.

The majority of these clips were filmed with the vivid color option, and a couple were filmed with vivid green. There's vivid red, vivid blue, sepia, black and white, color swap and more. There's also a custom vivid color setting, and you choose the color to be vivid.

The only thing I've found annoying about this camera is the fact that it doesn't charge the battery when connected via usb. It comes with a separate battery charger that the battery inserts into, and you plug it into the wall. I don't mind it that much though. Eventually I'll just get a spare battery and then it really won't be a big deal at all. The battery charges in about 1 1/2 hours.

I highly recommend this camera. You can't beat it for $180. This video was even re-rendered twice(first I had to convert it so it was compatible with Powerdirector, then again rendered in powerdirector) and it still looks this good. The quality from the raw files is just a tad better than this.

Another thing, the low light performance really surprised me for a 180 dollar camera. The last clip actually looked way darker than that.

So if you wanna spend under 200 for a camera that takes great pictures and also 720p, this is definitely a good option. I won't be returning this one.
