Regardless of how you create the subtitle files, you will firstly have to write out the subtitles in a txt document with the original language and then the translation.

Then you have two options:

Option 1 – doing subtitles manually. We have a PSD template that you can open in Photoshop or gimp. Manually edit, then save the files.

Option 2 – Use automation tools to create the subtitles automatically, which requires two steps:

1) Prepare a txt file whereby subtitles have to be in the following format. If you use a Mac you can even automate this step with software called Ruby.

2) Open the subtitles template in Photoshop and import the prepared text file to then export the subtitles as individual PSD files.

Common mistakes: Photoshop gives you an error and you don’t know what it means:

1) Could not pass the file contents as a dataset. There were not enough variable names in the first line of the txt file. Solution: You forgot to write the words “German, English”.

2) Could not pass the file contents as a dataset. There too many values were listed for data set X. Solution: There are more than four quotation marks in a line. Go to the line and check if the format is right: “”,””
