WordPress.com VS WordPress.org - What do YOU need?

"What, there's an option other than wordpress.com for using WordPress?"

This is what someone I spoke to recently said to me! And I get this quite often! Yes there are more options for WordPress! You have 2 options when building your website using WordPress! Developers and designers always choose the .org version because we can add on features and brand your website fully custom! The possibilities are endless with the .org version. There isn't a fee to use the .org version to get the add ons. All you need is a hosting platform (I love Siteground, this is an affiliate link so if you get a package thanks for the Starbucks card top up!)

There are MANY advantages to using the .org version but which do YOU really need?

It's perfectly ok to start with the .com option if plan to do it yourself. Only have a few pages you need to display and a contact form for people to reach out to you. It's ok to get started without a full blown brand. Start-ups typically develop one a little later when they figure some key things out as they launch.

If you need features AT launch that include payment portals (not just links taking you to PayPal to pay) then you need the self-hosted version known as WordPress.org. (Note you don't have to download wordpress at this web link, hosts like siteground have one click install options)

Myths about the .org version

You have to be able to code to build your website. FALSE! You just click around and build. There are even visual builders you can install so you can see exactly how it looks as you build it! (As opposed to having a text area to type in, hit save then go look then hit edit and go make changes, rinse and repeat!) Code is for customizing what you have further.

I can't brand my site on my own. FALSE! If you have a good eye for the arts I know you have it in you to create a nice visual look for your site.
