We're going to setup a Raspberry Pi at home so you can connect to it remotely. We will secure it with public key and multi-factor authentication before opening it up so it is accessible to the world.

I think the only Google thing about libpam-google-authenticator is that they wrote it, right? You don't need a Google account and it doesn't talk back to their servers IIRC.

Mostly yes, that's correct. Some (not necessarily here) are degoogle hardliners and prefer not to be exposed to a codebase where eventual contributions can be source-closed.

Meaning google could wrangle the codebase back under their control and effectively discontinue the current open source support platform if they wanted
