Hello, everyone. In this video, we're going to be taking a look at the WordPress Media Library. We're currently here in our Dashboard, and if you go over to Media on the menu on the side here and click in the sub-menu Library. This will take us through to our Media Library. The Media Library houses all of your images, video, audio, and many other types of media.
Underneath the Add New Media button, we have view options. At the moment, we are in the Grid Gallery type option, which gives us the ability to have a full preview of images and videos that we have uploaded into our library. Next to this is the List option. When we click that, a lot of things change. As you can see, we get a lot more information into our screen, and we also get a Screen Options tab at the top. Clicking on that, you will see you will be able to sort out bits of information we want to see and don't want to see by checking or unchecking tabs. Underneath that is the number of items you can see per page. Once you've made all your selections, be sure to click apply.
Okay. Following onto that, we have next to us Layout Options are Filter settings. You can filter the types of media you see in your gallery by images, audio, or unattached. Now, if you have other types of formats in your Media Library, like PDFs and Microsoft Word documents, they would also be available in this drop-down. Please select the ones you want, our All Media Options, and you will be able to filter them out.
Next to that is the Date. You will be able to filter out with dates of the types of media you want to see and not want to see. Once you've made your selections, click Filter. Further across is the Search option, so if you know the name of the type of media item that you want to find you can type it into here.
Now, if we hover our mouse over one of the photos we have in our Media Library, you will see we're met with a couple of options. The first is Edit, the second is Delete Permanently, and the third is View. If we click on the Edit, it will enable us to add captions, add alternate text, and also add a description if necessary. There is also the option here to edit the image. This takes us through to the WordPress Image Editor where we are able to crop the image, flip the image, rotate the image, and we can undo or redo our choices.
On the right-hand side, we are able to scale the image and also keep the aspect ratio optimize. We're also able to crop the image by holding down the Shift key and dragging. This will enable us to crop the image, and we can also alter the aspect ratio here whilst keeping the crop selection. If you want to cancel out of your crop selection, just click in the unselected dark area of the image and it will vanish.
Underneath here are your thumbnail settings and where you would like your changes applied to. Once you've made your changes, added your captions, and details, click Update. When you want to add files to your Media Library, you can drag and drop them in like so, or you can pick Select Files and choose from your computer's hard drive or cloud. If you're having trouble with the uploader, use the browser uploader instead by clicking this link here.
In the gallery section , all of the options are pretty much the same apart from this Bulk Select button. You click the Bulk Select and you're able to choose multiple files at a time to add to either a gallery or straight onto your post or pages. If you want to cancel your selection, you simply click so at the top here.
That's about it for the Media Library. I hope you like this video. I hope you found it informative. I will see you in the next one. Thank you for watching.
