Let's talk about Vanilla Code vs Frameworks & Libraries and what it means for Web Development in 2019 and beyond.

When you're learning to become a web designer and developer, you will typically learn a few coding & markup languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP or Python or Node JS along with a database management system like MySQL.

If you learn all the languages mentioned above, you will be considered a full stack web developer. Or you can choose to be a front end designer or back end developer.

There are many options for you to choose from in terms of becoming a web developer.

Even if you are well versed in the various coding languages I mentioned, creating a website can be very time consuming.

That's where code frameworks like Bootstrap, Foundation, Angular JS or Vue JS or Symfony or Laravel come into place.

Then you have code libraries like jQuery and React along with Task runners like Gulp, Grunt or Webpack and even transpilers like Babel.

These are all extremely beneficial to web designers & developers because they help to streamline your workflow while coding up a website either for yourself or a client.

So when you're learning to code, should you try and master each coding language or should you learn just enough and then learn the various frameworks and libraries?

This question always comes up and while the frameworks and libraries are extremely useful, I still recommend that you get well versed in Vanilla Code.

Vanilla Code is just regular code that you write without the help of a framework or library.

By developing a deep knowledge on each coding language, you can be prepared in the event of a changing trend in frameworks or libraries used.

You can also code your own light weight library and framework which can be very helpful in insuring your website performs well within the browsers and search engines. Remember, page load time is a ranking factor and important for SEO.

So even if you're a beginner, just learning to code, learning how to code is an investment in time and effort.
