Bachata Basic Step and Rhythm

We're going to start level I with the basic rhythm and footwork of the Bachata. Starting in place, we begin by stepping left, right, left and then tap with the right foot. To finish the basic step in place we now step right, left, right and then tap with the left foot.

With counts, we start with the left foot on count 1, right foot on 2, left foot on 3 and tap right foot on count 4. Now right foot steps on count 5, left foot on 6, right foot on 7 and then left foot taps on count 8 with no weight.

What we have covered is the basic rhythm of Bachata in place. But normally we have to move side-to-side as we take our steps. So now, let's do the same footwork except first moving to the left side and then to the right side. So starting with the left foot again, we have step to the side, bring the right foot together, step to side again with the left foot and then tap with right foot next to the left foot. Repeat going to right now. The right foot steps to the side, the left foot comes together, the right foot steps side again and the left foot taps next to the right foot with no weight.

One thing to remember if you're new to dancing is that a tap is when you just tap your foot without actually putting weight on it. So when we say "step, step , step" those are weight changes, but anytime we say "tap" in Bachata it's just a tap in place with no weight.
