Does aquarium API CO2 Booster work to grow your plants? These “liquid CO2” products in the aquarium hobby are sort of controversial if they work or not. There’s actually no such thing as a liquid form of CO2 so that’s where people get confused.

Can I make a request post that everyone share their unique aquarium decor? For example I’ve been seeing some terra cotta pots, glass jars, etc and I want inspiration for adding to/changing around my little 10 gal with Corycats and shrimp. I do plan on adding some Anubias and Java fern, I’m currently trying to re-grow my tank as I overdid it with mystery snails several months back and they pretty much ate EVERYTHING despite feeding them constantly and being told by everyone “mystery snails won’t eat your plants” (mystery snails have since been rehomed with a good friend).

I love the two different contrasting substrate colors. I see the white is sand, what is the darker substrate? I’m also curious how well they stay divided like that or if after so many water changes and gravel vacs it would get mixed together. Yeah the dark is a mixture or used and new Stratum. The sand is actually heavy enough to pretty much stay where I put it.

But wow your babies are beautiful! I’ve been seeing a few people with those pebbles/stones on top of white sand and I’m really digging the look. I never would have thought seeing the bags of them in the store that they would actually look so nice in a tank setup.

Second question of the day: So I know algae is kindof just a thing you have to deal with and I generally don’t have many issues with the glass or decor, it’s easy to clean and doesn’t grow super fast. However the sand right here is FOREVER giving me trouble, I did a water change and full gravel/sand vac FOUR DAYS AGO, and this stuff is practically impossible to gravel vac for the record. The room the tank is in doesn’t get any sunlight and is only lit by two small lamps and as you can see I taped off 6 of the 9 LED’s (before I taped over the lights I was getting THICK algae growing on my plants so densely that it was killing them). I also only keep my lights on for about 10-12 hours a day, water parameters are great. Any advice? Tank is only a 10gal with Corycats and shrimp so I’m limited on size and can’t accommodate most things that like to eat the stuff.

Theres a couple things going on that causes this green fuzz algae. It is extremely common in newer setups less a year old but can occur at later times.

Green fuzz algae is caused by nutrient deficiencies resulting in poor plant growth. Without the right macronutrients plants grow slowly. This allows algae to feed on the nutrients that are in excess while plants slowly starve.

Solutions:
First, uncover your bulbs. Plants need the right spectrum of light and changing it will encourage algae and weaken plant growth.

Then, set a timer on your lights for 8 hours.

Next, youre going to want to get a good quality fertilizer like Easy Green or Thrive, or Feed the Green. Fertilize weekly, per the Fertilizer instructions. Flourish is a micronutrient fertilizer not helpful for most aquarists.
You'll want to add some more plants also if possible.

In addition, one of the major causes of green fuzz algae is a lack of the macronutrient Nitrogen. You want to let a planted tank ideally sit between 10-25ppm of Nitrates. So dont over clean the tank.

Water changes should be ideally timed for when Nitrates reach 40ppm, then a 50% water change will reduce to 20 and keep your nitrates in the healthy plant zone.
