This JavaScript tutorial for beginners is part of the javascript string series tutorials that I have been publishing in my javascript string methods tutorials. In this tutorial, I will be teaching you about substring method in javascript. In substring method, a new string is extracted from the original string by appending .substring() to the original string and the round brackets will have either one parameter or two parameters. The first parameter is the index position at which the search for the character will start and the second parameter is the index position until which the search will last but not inclusive of the first character of the second index position. In substring, the parameter/s if negative are treated as 0 index position. If the start parameter is greater than the end parameter, then, they are swapped while searching and will be treated in the reverse order, that is, the end parameter which is lesser will be treated as the first start parameter and the first parameter which is of greater value will be treated as the end parameter to avoid confusion during the search as the search of characters or elements in substring is always unidirectional, in the direction from from beginning to end and never backward direction even if the parameters are negative in value. If both the parameters are of same value, then, the resultant string would be an empty string.
