Auto Techno – Active Information Display

Today, drivers have to juggle a multitude of information coming from their cars ranging from vehicle data such as speed, engine revs to navigation, and even entertainment. With such limited space allotted to the instrument cluster located in front of the driver, how can you fit all the information a driver would want or need?

Well, Volkswagen seems to have the answer with Active Info Display.

Available as a feature on the Passat executive sedan, the Active Info Display replaces the conventional instrument cluster with a high-resolution 12-inch screen. This set-up allows for five different views to be displayed and personalized to the driver’s requirements.

For example, in Navigation Mode, the speedometer and rev counter are moved to the edge to provide more space for the map. If required, information such as driving, navigation, and assistance functions can, however, be integrated into the speedometer and rev counter’s display areas.

Moreover, the Active Info Display is integrated into the car’s system allowing it to access things such as the infotainment system data enabling it to show telephone contact photos or CD cover art. This can be displayed on the center console or be transferred directly into the driver’s field of view.

The optional Active Info Display turns the cockpit into an interactive experience providing owners with various kinds of driving information simultaneously. It can be controlled using the steering wheel where it can switch between different information profiles:

First, Consumption & Range which shows the average fuel consumption and remaining range within the current amount of fuel.



Second, Navigation where it provides information about estimated travel time and distance to the destination. It can also give you detailed navigation data such as elevation and compass for better orientation.

Finally, with Driver Assistance System Profile, it gives you an overview of your activated assistance systems.

All-in-all, Volkswagen has managed to come up with an elegant and innovative solution for today’s busy individual. With Active Info Display, available as an option in the Passat, drivers can access a multitude of information in a legible and safe manner making driving a stress-free experience.
