what is selenium?
Selenium name is derived from Greek word, which means it is an antidote to remove mercury from body.
• Selenium is developed by Jason Huggins in 2004 at ThoughtWorks and later he joined with Paul Hammant and introduced “Selenium Remote Control”.
• In 2007 Huggins joined Google and in the same year Simon Stewart at ThoughtWorks developed a superior browser automation tool called WebDriver.
Selenium RC libraries are developed in JavaScript language.
Why selenium?
• It is open source tool.
• It supports only web applications.
• It supports different languages like (Java, c#, Python, PHP,
JavaScript).
Selenium components is classified into below types:
• Selenium IDE
• Selenium RC
• Selenium WebDriver 3.0
• Selenium Grid
Selenium WebDriver:
• WebDriver is an automation tool, which we can automate on
different browsers, and it is very easy to read and maintain. And it
directly talks to browser.
• It aims to provide a friendly API that's easy to explore and
understand.
Selenium Grid:
• We can distributes tests on several machines (parallel execution).
• We can run the test against a vast combination of browsers/OS.
