Python Tutorial Beginners - Classes and Object Oriented Programming, OOP

What Is Oop?
Object oriented programming abbreviated as OOP is a way of writing code in terms of objects. Basically everything in python is considered an object.

A story to understand OOP and Classes:

For example if you are writing program for a mobile game and you want to design a cat? How would you do it? You will list down properties of cat (color, size, meowing, eating, etc.) and will write code for each property. So what if you have to create multiple cats? How would you do it? Would you write new code for each time you have to use a cat in the game?

What if you are provided a mechanism so that you could design a blueprint of a cat one time and use that blueprint whenever you want to create a new cat? That mechanism is called Object Oriented Programing in the software world where you design a blueprint of any thing you want to create and are able to use that blueprint later to create instances of that blueprint (in our case Cat).

Similarly if you have to design a dog for your game what will you do? You will have to design a blueprint of a dog and then you will use that blueprint anywhere in your code to create a dog. In object oriented programming we call this concept of blueprint as a class. So in our case our blueprint is called "Cat Class". When we use the Cat Class in our code to create a new cat, that new cat is considered an Object of Cat Class or Instance of Cat Class.

If we summarize our story we can say that a class is a blueprint that is designed to implement any concept in programming and an Object is a creation and implementation of that blueprint in our code. Writing code in that way is called object oriented programming.
