Corner Space in Closets

Another “top ten” question from clients as we review their designs is “Aren't you wasting that corner space?”

They'll be looking at the plan view of the design for their Walk In Closet and inevitably ask why we're not using the space that actually has the bridge shelf (top connector shelf) in it.

The most effective explanation I've found is to do a live, visual demonstration (which I often do in the consultation phase because it comes up so frequently).

I stand in the space as if I were a garment on a hanger in the space. I show them how much space is occupied by a fully clothed me.

I will also hold a tape measure at the 24” mark so they can see the number as well.

“Oh” is the most common response - “I get it now. So, the material is only 14” deep but the clothes stick out past that. I see”.

Sometimes they ask about changing the depth or specify that they would prefer a 24” deep system so that clothes don't stick out.

If that happens, we discuss how that affects pricing.

And I always tell them that it's not really about the price of the closet for me – it could be one thousand – ten thousand or one hundred thousand. It's about getting it right for them.

It's about educating them about the ranges of investment increase we're talking about.

And it's about getting to “right” efficiently.
