Hey guys and welcome back. Today we are going to be creating our first Hello World ARCore App and deploy it to our android device. What this app does is to search for a plane based on coplanar feature points and overlay Andy the Android man onto that plane. The purpose of this is to test whether we are able to get the bare bones ARCore functionality working on our supported device.
So to get started it is very important that you complete the previous lecture where we downloaded, install and setup ARCore with Wikitude and we also set up Android SDK and JDK. In this lecture we shall focus purely on ARCore and running the HelloARCore demo app.
So if all goes well, you’ll be able to run your app. Now as you move your camera around you’ll see these tiny dots known as our point cloud. If multiple points within this cloud that are coplanar, meaning that they reside within the same plane, then they will evolve into a trackable plane. Every time a new plane is detected, it will show up as a new color. You can go ahead and touch the scene for hit testing and this will anchor Andy the Android man to the coordinated that you’ve touched on your screen. This is calculated using ray casting along with planar intersection
