Grind & Seal Polished Concrete | Step by Step Guide
Grind and seal floors are often chosen to give the look and feel of natural concrete but include the resiliency of a coating. While the sealer type may vary, this is a good alternative to a basic polish or opaque coating.
1. The first step is surface preparation by diamond grinding. Here it’s being done to deglaze the previously polished surface. Once ground, the surface is vacuumed three times to remove all the fine grinding dust.
2. The next step is an application of a water-based epoxy. This epoxy does a good job to act as a primer and minimally darken the slab.
3. Once the water-based epoxy is dry, a solvent-based urethane is applied to act as a satin gloss protective layer. This coating protects the floor from chemical or abrasive attacks. Once cured, the floor is ready for use.
