PIC Micro-controller programming|Assignment 008 |Led dimmer| Brightness control using potentiometer
Problem Statement:
- Implement a LED dimmer application using PWM (Timer ISR Based) (Shown in the video). The brightness of the LED illumination should be based on the user input using the switches.
Output Requirements:
- As soon as the board is powered on or reset, The LED should glow with 50% Duty Cycle (i.e the glow, half of its maximum intensity).
- The Increment Brightness Input should increase the Duty Cycle upto 100% (Total ON)
- The Decrement Brightness Input should decrease the Duty Cycle to 0% (Total OFF)
Pre-requisites:
You should have knowledge on,
- I/O Port
- LED
- Tactile Switch
- PWM
- Timers
Objective:
To learn and understand
- Basic working of the PORT
- How to configure the PORT pins as Input and Output
- How to configure the PORT pins as Digital
- Interfacing LED with the uC
- Working of LED
- Concepts of current sourcing & current sinking
- Interfacing Tactile Switch to uC as Active Low (i.e. Pull Up) or Active High (i.e. Pull Down)
- Tactile Switch Bouncing Effect and how to avoid it (Debouncing)
- Level Triggered Input
- Fundamentals of PWM
- ON and OFF time
- Duty Cycle
- Average Output Voltage
- Interrupts and its fundamentals
- Timers and its need
- Timer and its fundamentals like
- Resolution
- Tick
- Scale
- Quantum
- Timer Configuration
- Time calculations for specific needs
- ISR and its Do and Don’ts
Inputs:
- DKS1 as Increase Brightness Input, Level Triggered
- DKS2 as Decrease Brightness Input, Level Triggered
- Program Cycles as Period
Notes / Additional Information:
- None

- Implement a LED dimmer application using Bit Banging PWM (Shown in the video). The brightness of the LED illumination should be based on the user input tuning the Knob of potentiometer.
- Implement a LED dimmer application using PWM (Timer ISR Based) (Shown in the video). The brightness of the LED illumination should be based on the user input tuning the potentiometer
- Implement a point brightness control using PWM (Timer ISR Based). The LED should dim to a fixed brightness (say 10% duty cycle) (Shown in the video). Once the user presses a switch the LED should glow at 100% duty cycle for 5 seconds and then after 5 seconds time out, the LED should dim back to 10% duty cycle.
- Implement a LED dimmer application using PWM (Timer ISR Based) (Shown in the video). The brightness of the LED illumination should be based on the user input using the switches. The current percentage of brightness should displayed on the CLCD as Horizontal Bar (Shown in the video)
