In this video, we will introduce you to the “IBridgePy” which allows traders to implement their trading strategies in Python with Interactive Brokers or in short IB. IBridgePy is developed by Dr. Hui Liu who is the founder of Running River Investment LLC, a private hedge fund, specialized in the development of automated trading strategies using Python.
IBridgePy is a flexible and user friendly Python package which can be used to execute trades on Interactive Brokers trading platform. IBridgePy is a third-party implementation of the API used to access IB Trader Workstation or IB Gateway. IBridgePy does not re-implement Interactive brokers’ API. Instead it helps Python to call IB’s C++ API directly and it acts as a wrapper to it.
Since IBridgePy calls on IB’s C++ API directly, we can expect less number of errors and exceptions in the program. This is because the IB C++ API is officially maintained by IB. Features such as flexibility and easy-to-use make IBridgePy different from other similar tools.
Let’s discuss each one in detail. Flexibility: The main motivation to develop IBridgePy is to make the application flexible. Using IBridgePy, you can trade any security that IB provides. You can trade stocks, futures, options, forex etc. You can use any Python package and pull data from any data source such as Yahoo, Google or IB.You can also manage multiple IB accounts using one connection. Easy-to-use: IBridgePy is a user friendly interface. You will not have to put any extra efforts to manage your orders that are pending or writing codes to get historical data or quotes from the server, as the wrapper takes care of it.
