L8c Data Link Layer Automatic Repeat Request: In the previous two videos we discussed the function of the data link layer in terms of framing and error control as well the employment of the cyclic redundancy check code for error detection. Here, we explain the simple protocol of transmitting frames between two hops. This protocol is based on the principle that no new frame will be transmitted until the receiver acknowledges the correct reception of the current frame. We analyze this protocol and derive its throughput.
