Art Institute of Portland Video Game Production Project: a third person shooter with tower defense game mechanics created in UDK. Objective: defend bases from hell spawn as the difficulty level increases over time. There are three tiers: Tier 1 is a tutorial level designed to familiarize the player with the game and overall concept. Tier 2 is a challenge where players must run and gun while trying to defend the bases. Tier 3 is a bloodbath; the player fights off wave after wave of countless demons. The goal is to stay alive as long as possible.

This video shows off a small piece of Tier 1 and all of my work in Tier 2.

Role: Level Designer / World Builder
Responsible for the following for largest level (Tier 2) - center of large city:
Block-out
Terrain design
Asset placement
Navmeshing
Lighting (interior and exterior)
Low poly modeling of basic environmental assets

Challenges:
9 month deadline
Inexperienced group (myself included)
Technical learning curve
Communication between teams

I also worked on two buffer zones between the tiers, this involved making custom buildings and designs, and ensuring the player could not see the next level loading.

I created particle effects using UDK's Cascade to make fire, smoke, sparks, etc as well as weapon projectile effects and portals for the demons.
