How-to Make A Quick Wire Twist Connection Tutorial

Learn how to quickly and easily connect two objects together using wire. This technique works essentially like a twist tie and a garbage bag, but I use heavier gauge wire and a pair of pliers to make the connection. This is a very quick and simple way to connect two objects together using wire. A wire twist is not a high strength connection, but it can be created very quickly. I also show how to quickly cut the wire using side cutters. You will also learn how to use electrical tape to connect two objects together, as well as learn how to use a wire bender to form wire. There are many practical or survival skills which involve connecting two objects together, which makes know how to use wire a valuable skill.

If the wire twist is twisted too tightly, then it will break. The wire is tight when it is under tension. Wire that is under tension and is pulled tightly doesn’t bend much when you touch it. Sometimes if you hit the wire and it is suspended in the air it will make a twang sound, almost like a guitar string. Guitar strings are also wire under tension. This is probably a low strength connection, meaning that this connection is not as strong as the break strength of the wire. However, in many applications, strength is less of an issue and speed is more of an issue. For example, if I am making a garden trellis using 100 lbs. break strength wire, I might only need the connection to be able to hold 12 lbs. If my connection can hold 40 lbs, that connection will still work. If the connection doesn’t have to be tight or high tension, then it may be possible to twist the wire by hand, without using pliers.

This wire twist has lots of practical applications. The connection also works kind of like a clamp. Two branches or other long objects can be connected lengthwise or at right angles. An object can be fastened to a pole. A bunch of long objects can be bound together, say like a bundle of sticks. There are many uses for this technique; all it takes is a little bit of practice.
