Beam Analysis –Partially Applied UDL-Demo -Using Ansys Mechanical APDL-Problem -3 -Session -2

I hope the students have understood the concepts of Finite Element Methods and analysis beams in their theory courses. Here an effort has been made to solve a typical Beam problem with partially applied uniformly distributed transverse load(UDL) using Ansys Mechanical APDL Release 14. Since Beam elements with different cross sections are subjected to transverse loads also resulting in beam bending, Beam 188 element will be ideal for our analysis. By doing this problem using Ansys Mechanical APDL Release 14, Beam 188 Elements, students will know all the concepts related to Preprocessing phase, Solution Phase and Post Processing phase. They will clearly understand the concepts of meshing and assigning properties. They will clearly understand the theoretical concepts of finding the Reactions at the supports,Bending Moment Diagram, Shear Force diagram involved behind this problem and will clearly know how to extract the same results using Ansys Release 14. They will also know about element output definition table and significance of SMISC etc used during post processing phase for extraction of Bending moment diagram and shear force diagrams. They will also understand how to orient the beams so that depth of the beam is parallel to Y axis and transverse load is applied in this position. Hence, deflection or deformation of the beam will be proper and we get accurate Bending stress Plots also. They will also know the significance of save and resume db. They will also know how to save a file and call it whenever they need. They will also learn about Log file/Macro Code generation for a given problem and learn to analyse the problem by changing the various parameters defining the problem in macro and extracting the changed results. They will also learn to animate the deformation of beam structure on application of load.
