How to Lock Rows Based on Date in Excel Except Empty Rows

How to lock rows based on date in excel or how to password protect rows based on date in excel.

In this tutorial we are going to lock rows that has passed dates and also future dates. We are going to keep only today's date row unlocked. In another sense you can say that if you have today's date on any rows only that rows can be edited. If you have anything rather than today's date that rows will be password protected.

In a previous video we’ve done something similar (How to lock cell based on date in excel: https://youtu.be/6etOvTOVThQ) but there was a problem. You can’t edit an empty rows.

In this tutorial we solved it and we keep the empty rows unlocked along with today’s date row. This is an On Request Tutorial and if you need any tutorial you can ask me.

In this tutorial I used Microsoft Excel 2019. This is an advanced excel tutorial and I used VBA for this tutorial. Let’s get started.

To protect rows based on date you need to follow the steps below.
1. Open a workbook on Microsoft Excel 2019 (Works on 2010 to Above)
2. Right click on “Sheet 1” from the down left corner.
3. Click on “view code” to open VBA editor.

5. Click save and save the workbook in “Excel Macro-enabled workbook” which is “XLSM” format.

Let’s understand the code for in-depth knowledge.

At the 3rd & 6th line you will find “A”. This is the column name where we listed date. You can change it if your sheet contains date on another column.

At the 4th & 7th line you will see “123456” which is the password and again you can change it according to your need.

At the 5th line you’ll see the message that will be displayed if you click any cell other than today’s date row.
