Unstructured data brings its own unique set of challenges including variety & volume of the unstructured data set, denormalized (schema-less) sources, data prep and determining where to start given the two aforementioned "V's" of big data.
Featuring engineering against this variable data can also present a unique problem demanding an equally unique approach across Text Mining (NLP), GeoSpatial (GIS), Time Series, Visual (Imagery & Computer Vision) and Video in which downsampling, model assisted labeling, and pixel completion and other approaches are required to realistically incorporate these large data sets and types.
Speaker Bios:
Ari Kaplan, Global AI Evangelist at DataRobot, is a leading figure in AI, sports analytics, and business leadership. Some highly visible successes in sports include creating the Chicago Cubs analytics department and serving as assistant to the GM of the Orioles for six seasons. In business he was President of the worldwide Oracle users group during a period of high growth including the acquisition of MySQL, Java, and PeopleSoft. Kaplan’s thought leadership includes co-authoring five best-selling books on analytics and having The History Channel make a documentary on one of his analytical investigations. He has been the recipient of Caltech's "Alumnus of the Decade" and Crain's Chicago Business "40 Under 40" awards.
Joel Gongora is a customer facing Data Scientist at DataRobot. Joel is a NASA funded research professional with a focus in the application of computer vision and feature engineering of geophysical data. He is an experienced Data Scientist and Researcher. He is skilled in Python, PySpark, Graph Theory, Deep Learning, Geosciences, Remote Sensing, Computer Vision, and NLP. . He is passionate about the Machine Learning Life Cycle, his goals include the democratization of AI and the empowerment of organizations to maintain and manage their own machine learning solutions.
