Basic CNC - Setting Up the Haimer Work Offset for Efficient Machining

We recently had a comment on our Haimer Calibration video, that made us decide to expand on the subject of work offsets using a Haimer. Haimer probes are great tools to increase the productivity of machining. By having a Haimer on hand, you can set the X, Y, and Z axis one tool. Haimers also come with varying sizes of probe tips. Because the tip lengths vary, so does the size of the probe ball, which compensates for the length. This must be kept in mind when measuring in the X and Y axis.

To set the zero location, you need to pre-load the Haimer tip to check for accurate length. Jason explains the basics of measuring the Haimer with a height gauge. Being consistent with your method of measurement is key for accurate work offsets. Jason prefers using a granite block and height gauge to measure the zero on the Haimer and on his tooling. He then explains the basics of setting the X, Y, and Z coordinates on a workpiece. Once those are set then it's easy to set the center of a workpiece.
