Planning to visit Sigiriya Rock in 2022 - is it worth visiting Sigiriya Rock?
Follow our new Sri Lanka episode where we are visiting the most famous landmark in Sri Lanka - SIGIRIYA Rock Fortress (Lion's Rock)!

We really struggled with the idea of visiting both Sigiriya and Pidurangala Rock, or go for the cheaper Pidurangala only. Eventually we decided we must visit Sigiriya too - it's such an ancient site and although the views are similar to those on Pidurangala, you can't say it is the same experience.

We are happy that we made this choice and visited this TOP Sri Lanka attraction, even though usually we avoid hotspots and prefer to wander off the beaten path in our travels.

Note that if your are a foreigner you need to make sure you start your visit at the Sigiriya Rock Foreigner's Entrance (yes, it's actually called like that).
Buy your tickets at the Museum/Ticket Office first - at the checkpoint you can't buy tickets - they only check them here.

The current price in 2022 in $30 USD (6090 rupees per person) and you can only pay cash.
Locals can enter in the regular entrance - they only need to pay a very small fee.

We would advise going early morning or afternoon - we've been there around midday and it's really hot and you will get sunburnt - make sure you put on lots of sunblock and wear a hat at least if you can only visit in the middle of the day :) The visit should take you about 2 - 2.5 hours.
