Wordpress Editor Tutorial

Hello ladies and gentlemen. In this video we are going to talk about the WordPress editor. The WordPress editor is where you will be entering all of your content, be it on pages or on posts.

We start at the very top with the screen options tab on the top right hand side. As you can see we have the enable full height editor distraction free functionality switched to off. If we go down to the bottom you can see that everything is kind of contained in this window. We can adjust that by moving the window up and down and changing the length of it. If we turn on the enable the full height editor we will see that it expands all the way out and it doesn't matter how much content I add in underneath, it will just keep expanding down and we get everything visible at one.

What we're going to do is we're going to leave our full height editor on and we'll have the distraction free functionality switched on as well with that. We'll leave that on.

Moving on, we have our add media tab that we've covered. That means running through to your media gallery and enables you to add media to your posts and pages.

Running along the top we have what's pretty standard. If you have Microsoft Word or any kind of word processor like that Google Word, Google Docs. You will know exactly what all this means but we'll go through it anyway.

We've got the B here, this emboldens text. Easy for you to say. Underneath we have the italic text. We will select that an that will turn our text into italic. Next to that is the strike-through, when we do that we get a strike-through on our text. We also have bullet points, so we can highlight all of these guys here and select the bullet points and it will make them into bullets or numbered bullets.

We can also quote some text. If we put the text into quotes we just do that and it becomes this very cool, very attractive looking quote section so you can quote text and get this nice little bar and the text turns into to a different font and a lighter color that really highlights the quote.

The feature next to quotes is the horizontal line, which puts a lovely line through your content. It can divide your content up into separate sections. It's very very cool if you're talking about a certain subject but then you can divide the text up into certain subcategories as well within one article. It does look very good. Next to that we have the three text alignment options. We have a line to the left, a line to the center, and a line to the right.

If you're looking to add a link to your text and you highlight the text that you would like to make linkable and then you click on the link button and enter your URL. Underneath that check to see if your link text is correct and that's what's you want, and also select whether you want it to open up into a new tab. Once you've done that you click add link and as you can see this text is now linkable.

If you would like to remove a link from your text then you either highlight the link as one or have your cursor in amongst the link and then just click remove link and it will remove the link completely.

Sometimes having large sways of text on your page can be unattractive. What you can do is you can highlight some of the text, or the bottom sections of the text, and then click the read more icon next to your remove link. That will make it an option, a clickable option, so that people can read a highlight of the article or the story or whatever it is you're writing, and if they want to see more than they can click to see more. It makes your article or page look a lot more tidier and you can also fit a lot more in.

Next to this is the toolbar toggle, you can select this or unselect this and it will produce a whole new row of tool for you to use. Starting from the left we have the paragraph tag. What we can do here is we can select a heading or reformatted text size and implement that straight in. If we select heading 2 we can see that this take our text to a heading 2. If we wanted to adjust it again and take you to a heading 1 it's easy to do.

If we want to underline some text you can do that straight away by just selecting the underline and that will underline the text that you highlight. Also, you can justify text as well. If we justify it will spread the text out, which is lovely if you have your text broken up into sections like a magazine or newspaper styling.

The next feature is text color. You can select from a range of colors and is excellent to highlight key points and make things look a little more fancy.
