Standard Form

When you want to learn something, who do you go to first? Your peer, someone who is in the same boat as you. Here is a video on standard form from me to you. In this video I share with you my learnings, challenges, tips, and tricks as I learnt this concept.

At the end of this video my hope is for you to:
- Understand the rules of standard form is and identify the variables of this form.
- To be able to easily find the x intercept, y intercept, and slope of an equation in standard form.

Answer to your turn now questions:

1. Identify the values of A, B, and C from the equation 4x-8y=-20
How to solve it: Use the checklist at 7:05.

Answer: A=4 B=-8 C=-20

2. Fix the equation 3x-2/5y=3/2 so that it follows the rules of standard form
How to solve it: Use the checklist at 7:05. Multiply both sides by the common denominator of -2/5 and 3/2 which is 5*2 10. This gets rid of the fractions.

Answer: 30x-4y=15

3. Fix the equation -2/4x+4y=2 so that it follows the rules of standard form
How to solve it: Use the checklist at 7:05. Multiply both sides by the common denominator which is 4 to get rid of the fraction. You should get -2x+16y=8. Then multiply both sides by a negative to get rid of the negative next to -2x.

Answer: 2x-16y=-8

4. Find the x intercept, y intercept, and slope of the equation -6x-3y=2
How to solve it: Use the checklist at 7:05. To find the x intercept use C/A to get 2/-6 = -1/3. To find the y intercept use C/B to get 2/-3 = -2/3. To find the slope use -A/B to get -(-6)/-3=6/-3=-2.

Answer: x-intercept=-1/3 y-intercept=-2/3 slope=-2
