A Keyboard Wall That Showcases Immutable Infrastructure as Code

Who has ever deployed a Nomad cluster on a public cloud provider, such as AWS? Who has ever deployed a Nomad cluster on-prem? And who has ever deployed a Nomad cluster on a bunch of Raspberry Pi’s to control a RGB-keyboard powered wall? While working on a hobby project at work, we used Ansible to deploy our software on a bunch of Raspberry Pi’s. We noticed that our approach was error prone and fragile by design, to say the least. We found a way to counter this, so in this talk we will take you on a journey that makes some techniques such as infrastructure as code and immutable infrastructure tangible using tools such as Nomad, Consul, and Packer, and how and why we used them to build a Raspberry Pi cluster. In short, we have found out that HashiCorp tools not only have their merits in enterprise-grade applications, but also in such a seemingly ridiculous case such as a RGB-keyboard illuminated wall. -
