Host a fully managed Kubernetes cluster using AWS EKS
• Goal:
The goal of this project is to explore the Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) with integrations of features such as Elastic Load Balancer, AWS IAM authentication as well as logging with AWS CloudTrail.
• Description:
Containerization in a cloud environment is becoming the future for many companies as it is cost effective, highly scalable, and configurable for specific needs. This project aims to explore and utilize the Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service, or AWS EKS for short, for any potential clients to run their Kubernetes based applications in a highly available cluster in the US region.
In addition to hosting an EKS, several features will be integrated. Namely, load balancing, authorization as well as audit logging will be the primary features. Load balancing will utilize Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) as an alternative to an ingress controller. This will provide the client with more options while developing their app. AWS IAM will aim to only allow authorized people to deploy into the cluster. Any other user will get an access error. Finally, logging will utilize AWS CloudTrail. AWS CloudTrail will monitor and record any account activity in the Kubernetes cluster which will be useful for audit logging. If time permits, a managed Kubernetes cluster service will also be featured.
Finally, a simple application will be deployed to this cluster to demonstrate the capabilities of EKS as well as the integrated services.
