How to Use COUNTA Function in Excel

In this Excel Function Explained video series, I will explain, how to use CountA function in excel. Excel CountA function is often used to Count how many cells have values in excel. Using CountA function, you’ll be able to catch on if a cell contains a value or not inside a Data range. It doesn’t matter if your data range is formatted as text or number. You’ll be able to use CountA to Count the occupied cells.

Let’s learn how to use CountA formula in excel.

The Function looks like this = COUNTA (Value1, Value 2…)

The CountA function has Only One argument or parameter.
1. Value: In this parameter, we need to select the cells from which we need to Count if it has any occupied cells in it. You can use cell, cell range or even a combination of adjacent and distant cells and data range using comma as a separator. Also, you can add up to 255 values in this function.

Now there are Several points you need to remember before using this function.

1. It considers Everything as a value except blank or empty cells.
2. It doesn’t matter if your data range is formatted as text or number or anything else, CountA function works just fine.

This is how we use CountA in excel. Remember, using CountA function in excel you actually tell excel formula to Count cells that has values inside it.
