Helios 1.6 Installation

This video shows installation of Helios 1.6 over existing Helios 1.4. There is nothing special about this installation, so you safely skip this video and just install the software in the normal Windows way. However, if you are currently a Helios 1.3 user, please carefully read the information in the readme included below and also shown in the installer.

Helios 1.6 is not an explicit collaboration with Craig Courtney, but it relies heavily on the original Helios. This distribution is not endorsed by Craig Courtney.

Before Installation

1) Make sure you virus scan the installation. We believe our build system to be virus free, however we make no claims that it is virus free, and we take no responsibility for any damage to your system as a result of installation of Helios or its install mechanism.

2) The executables are not currently signed so a warning for this will be issued during installation and running of the software. It is completely your decision and risk if you ignore warnings.

3) Ensure that you back up all of your existing Export.lua scripts and the like. When you configure the DCS interfaces, Helios will replace the current Export.lua

Before Installation over Helios 1.3

If you are currently running Helios 1.3, please follow these instructions to make sure you can recover from any failed upgrade attempt. If you are using Helios 1.4 or Helios 1.6, none of these apply to you.

1) Make a complete back-up of your %userprofile%\Documents\Helios directory. We take no responsibility for messing up your current Helios profiles

2) Archive your Helios 1.3 installer or your Helios program files directory. The original distribution site for Helios 1.3 no longer exists, so you may not be able to download it again.

3) You can choose not to Uninstall Helios 1.3 and install this code to a different directory and this should work ok. However there are no claims of the backward compatibility of profiles so if you edit a profile with this release of Helios, then it is likely to cause problems if you attempt to open it again in an older version of Helios so point 1 above is very important.
