Quantum Magic
Can we understand difficult scientific concepts intuitively through dance?
Working with All or Nothing Dance Theatre and the researchers at the Theoretical Physics Group at University of Leeds (Dr Chris Turner, Ms Erin McNeill and Dr Zlatko Papic) we endeavoured to find out via a mass audience participation project.
Following our instructional videos, online participants danced, filmed themselves and submitted their footage to be choreographed into a final performance.
We were interested to see if the artistic choices the dancers made could connect them to other, distant dancers? Whether, when viewed together, patterns would emerge like particles under a microscope? And ultimately, if deep scientific concepts such as chaos theory and entanglement could be explained, illustrated or communicated via their movements.
The finished film is a result of the material we received. The creative editing choices made reflected that of the participants performance, the scientific concepts they reflected and shared narrative of our lives in lockdown during the pandemic.
