Weather Display Module using Python and Web Scraping

The proposed weather module is designed with Web Scraping technique, Python 3 Software and Paho mqtt client. The module is designed to have I2C LCD display and RGB LED alert system. The concept of the proposed module is to scrape the data from the weather.com website , drive the data to the LCD display and to use the data for the alert system. The data scraping is done using BeautifulSoup and system designed using Python3.

The system is added with two switches(switch 1 and switch 2) for the demo purposes. If the switch 1 is low, the system will display the Toronto’s weather. If the switch 1 is high, switch 2 is low, the location switch to option2. If the both switches are high, the location switch to option3

The system is having one RGB led as the alert system. As soon as the data is scraped, the RGB led turns lid up either red or green or blue.

Three Conditions for the RGB led to lid up:

If the scraped data has any alerts issued, the led turns “Red”
If the scraped data has warning weather conditions such as rain, showers, thunderstorm, snow, etc., the led turns “Blue”
If the scraped data has no active alerts, the led turns “Green”
The scraped data is formatted using pandas. The system is scheduled to run every minute using crontab. The results of cron job stored in a text file. The text file can be used as database for the system. Finally, the weather display application designed using mqtt.
